You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. John 15:16

God Remembered Cornelius - He Will Not Forsake You

"Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God." Acts 10.4

Cornelius was a gentile, a Roman army commander. But Cornelius loved the God of Israel. He gave gifts to the poor and helped in the synagogue. As a very busy army commander Cornelius still had time for God and visited the temple regularly. A centurion of the Roman Army was a commander in charge of one hundred or more troops.

The reason Cornelius and other Roman soldiers came was to destroy temples and seize Jerusalem. But in the midst of such hatred and darkness, Cornelius began to see the truth. Instead of destroying he started constructing, instead of hating his hosts, he started loving with gifts to the poor. Instead of blaspheming the Holy Name in military arrogance, he joined hands and prayed with former foes who he saw now as brothers. Without prior examples, Cornelius crossed over to the Lord's side by faith.

Peter revealed much when he said: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favouritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right." Cornelius was one of the first gentiles to receive the promised Holy Spirit, his prayers and gifts to the poor came up to God as a memorial, and so will yours!

"I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings."
