You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. John 15:16

Greatness in the Kingdom

A mother wanted two of her children to be great in the Kingdom of God, so she approached Jesus with her sons and requested him to "grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your Kingdom."

This would have been a shortcut to greatness for the two, except that Jesus declined, stating that those two positions "belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father." Jesus then instructed the disciples further on how to work and achieve greatness in the Kingdom. He taught that in His Kingdom the means for reaching greatness is different from the way of the world — the worldly leaders would lord it over their subjects. It is not so in the Kingdom. How is greatness achieved in the Kingdom?

Jesus had this to say "...whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant..." (Matthew 20) Service is the path to our greatness. Like David, we are called to be shepherd-kings, Jesus himself is our great example!
